Description:
Make: Bridesburg. Manufactured by Alfred Jenks & Son at the Bridesburg Machine Works in Bridesburg, Pennsylvania.

Model: Springfield Model 1864 Rifle Musket to converted to breech loading .58 cal.

Serial Number: None

Year of Manufacture: 1864-1865; Converted after the Civil War

Caliber: .58 Center Fire Cartridge

Action Type: Single Shot Side-Gate Breech

Markings: The lockplate is marked “1864”, Eagle and “U.S. / BRIDESBURG”. The top of the buttplate is marked “U S”. The barrel bands are all marked “U”.The top rear of the barrel is marked “5” and with an Eagles Head proof.The front of the hammer extension is marked with metal checkering in a Shield. Ther are no proof marks on the barrel, or cartouches on the stock.

Barrel Length: Approximately 40” prior to conversion / Now, approximately 36 ”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a thick blade atop a raised base. The rear sight is a flip-up “V” notched dual blade assembly. When down the front blade is used, when flipped-up the taller rear blade is used.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is hardwood with a straight grip, cutout for the included ram rod, metal nose cap, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate. The stock has a dark brown pitna, and shows dings, impressions, and handling marks, and wear alonf the reamrod groove. The barrel spring is missing on the front barrel band. 

Type of Finish: Dark brownish black

Finish Originality: unknown

Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is defined. 

Overall Condition: The finish shows frosting and wear. There is surface erosion on some parts. The lockplate shows light pitting. The buttplate shows wear and surface erosion. The screw heads are still crisp. The markings are readable. Overall, this rifle rates abut Good condition for its age.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.
