Description:
This rifle is a very late Type 99 made in the Nagoya arsenal. Originally chambered in the 7.7 Japanese cartridge it was re-chambered into .30-06 by the Tokyo arsenal. This is one of about 126,000 rifles intended for South Korean Gendarmerie. Few of these rifles were ever issued as the war ended in 1953. Modifications to this rifle include lengthening of the magazine well and cutting a notch in the top of the receiver to accommodate the larger .30-06 cartridge. Being that there were significant differences between the two calibers the accuracy suffered. Following an article in the Gun Press by P.O. Ackley regarding the strength of this action some uninformed reloaders "Hot Rodded" their .30-06 loads in this rifle resulting in cases splitting from the more tapered chamber and the relatively straight case as well as a .308 bullet in a .311 bore. .30-06 Springfield
