Description:
A one-off custom built by Neil Keller (now retired) who started Kustom Ballistics in 1984. Neil always ran a one-man shop doing "extreme" custom work on handguns of all sorts. Neil specialized in making "baby Lugers" among other things, and his 1911 work was always in demand. Neil was the American Pistolsmiths Guild Pistolsmith of the Year in 2003. His work graced the pages of American Handgunner Magazine too. Neil created the concept of the "sight channel" in a 1911 and did some custom guns using this innovative idea. It was later "copied" by some factory makers.
The gun here is a hand-built, complete custom done by Neil in the very early 2000's. Based on an Infinity slide and frame, Neil chopped, channeled and otherwise crafted a very unique early version of a "High-Cap" pocket 1911. Note the bobbed hammer, innovative sight channel, grip texture, skeletonized trigger and "straw" colored highlights on the controls. This is a true pocket .45 done before any factory model was ever produced.
There will never be another one like this as Neil is no longer doing any custom work whatsoever and is 100 percent retired. This gun is an iconic part of the evolution of the custom 1911 and Neil's forward-thinking helped to drive many innovations in factory handguns as the major makers began to pay attention to what was happening in the custom handgun market during the early 2000's. Today's factory line-ups from the major makers can credit many of the "innovations" they showcase to the ground-breaking thinking and work of gents like Neil Keller of Kustom Ballistics.
