Here we present an antique Winchester Shipped Colt .45 Caliber Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured in 1882 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt “Peacemaker” was introduced in 1873 and has become one of the most iconic firearms in all of history, thanks to its widespread use by the U.S. military, civilians and, more recently, in Western films.
The factory letter confirms that this revolver was shipped to Winchester Repeating Arm in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882, along with 24 others. This example is interesting because it was inspected by U.S. Army Sub-Ordnance David F. Clark, but condemned, as you can see in the sideways “C” above his initials on the frame. The left side of the frame also did not receive the “U.S.” acceptance marking as it would have if it would have passed.
The overall condition is good. This Colt SAA looks like it did what it was meant to do. Original patina. Robust action. Good bore with clear rifling. Firm walnut grip, that shows normal use. Numbers match. A neat “condemned” government piece that Colt saw just fine to sell to the public!
