Description:
Here is an uncommon rifle. Only a couple thousand were made back in the 1870s. This one has survived in good shooting shape and in pretty fair overall condition. The book says these were made with 28" barrels; this one has a 24" barrel. The local gunsmith says it looks "factory"  to him.  looking at some other Whitneys on various sites, it does look factory. I've shot this rifle and was pleasantly surprised at both function and accuracy. If I still have it, it may go deer hunting this fall for the first few days of the season. The bore is good with decent rifling but some mild fuzziness as might be expected. The metal has gone to gray. The wood is solid and retains most of its oil finish no splits or cracks. No rust or pitting. Lettering is good but the patent dates are getting faded. Serpentine lever. $60 shipping and insurance to your door in most states. Layaway available.
