Description:
Serial #5115, 9mm Para., 6 inch barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome pistol that has matching numbers with the exception of the sideplate, which was armory refinished at one point and no longer has a visible number, and the rear toggle link, which is also not numbered. The metal retains 97-98% of an excellent, reapplied rust blue finish, with lots of excellent bright straw coloring remaining on the trigger, safety, take-down lever, and ejector. The pistol has the “(crown)/M" marking of the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) on the left side of the receiver and the altered safety has the original “GESICHERT" milled out (partial letters are still barely visible) with new safety marking above (most of these pistols were altered to confirm with the safety arrangement on subsequent models of Luger pistols and had their markings changed accordingly). The backstrap is engraved with the Wilhelmshaven Naval Dockyard property stamp: “WW/5498" (pistol no. 5498); and the checkered wooden grips (neither is numbered on the interior) have light-moderate handling marks throughout, as well as minor flattening of the points, and a glue repaired crack on the leading edge of the right panel. The pistol comes with a single correct magazine that has a concentric ring-marked wooden base, and faint, but still visible “(Crown)/M" naval marking. This is a handsome example of a desirable Navy Luger variation that would make a fantastic addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
