Description:
NSN, approximately .48 cal., 31 1/2" heavy octagon barrel with a fair, dark bore. This is an imposing rifle that has an overall mottled plum-brown patina on the barrel, with some trace silvering along the flats. The barrel is turned for a bullet-starter (not included), and fitted with simple iron sights. The tang has a plate for mounting an aperture sight on the wrist tang, but no sight is present. The top flat is maker marked: "(Masonic square and compass) / P.A. REINHARD / LOUDONVILLE / ASH. CO. O. / 1874" (Peter Albert Reinhard was active in Loudonville, Ohio from 1848-1890, before moving to Dayton). The simple back-action lock has an overall pewter gray patina, and the rifle is fitted with double-set triggers, a single spur German silver trigger guard, crescent buttplate, and a brass toeplate. The wedge-fastened walnut stock has a pewter forend tip, and has numerous small handling marks and blemishes marring the refinished wood. Additionally, there are some small, with-the-grain drying cracks scattered about as well. A wooden ramrod is included, and the rifle rates good-near very good overall. Antique
