Description:
NSN, .38 cal., 30 3/4" octagon barrel with a good bore that has freckling and mild pitting within the grooves. This is an attractive, back-action percussion rifle that has a mellow brown patina on the barrel interspersed with silvering along the edges of the flats, areas of mild surface freckling throughout, and a crack at the tang running through the screw hole. The lock and hammer have a bright gray patina with floral engraving, and a German silver nosecap, tail pipe, wedge escutcheons, trigger guard, buttplate, and toeplate are fitted. The original double-set triggers are partially functional, but do not hold at full cock. The walnut stock is in very good shape with minor handling marks in the original varnish, although there are a few drying cracks present, and the stock has a rounded cheek-piece. This is a handsome American percussion rifle and rates very good overall. Antique
