Description:
Serial #W29002, .455 Webley Auto, 5" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is the second gun, by serial number, in the second block of guns purchased by London Armoury Co. in January of 1916 (serial block W29001 – W29444). LAC purchased the first 600 pistols shipped to Britain for private sale to officers, however no sales records survive. The pistol is remarkably well-preserved, and retains 95% plus of the original high polish blue finish, with silvering along the high and exposed edges, as well as numerous small handling marks and small blemishes on both the frame and slide. The pistol has the distinct "JJ" stamp on the underside of the frame on the left side, along with numerous London proofs, especially on the characteristically polished breech. The checkered, double-diamond grips are in very good shape with moderate flattening of the points, as well as two distinct notches cut into the bottom of the left grip. A single, correct, "CAL .455 / ELEY" marked, lanyard loop magazine is included. This is a fantastic example of a rare, correct .455 Government Model pistol, and is in fine-excellent condition.
