This rifle retains 75-80% of the original blue finish turning plum-brown on the barrel and magazine door, while the receiver has a freckled, gray-brown patina. The bolt has some of the original armory bright finish with the balance turned to plum-brown, and a few traces of the original fire blue remains on the extractor. The walnut stock and handguard have numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the original finish, and both the “JSA / 1899" cartouche, and proof stamp are still clear and legible. The stock compartment is empty. The rifle is accompanied by a 1901 dated bayonet that has been cleaned bright, and has numerous spots of dark brown freckling throughout. The blade has been sharpened, and has a series of deep nicks and notches along the edge. The wooden grip panels are in good shape, and the bayonet is housed in a brown leather picket pin scabbard that has flaked tabs and minor surface scuffs. This is an about good, late production '98 Krag overall, with nice accessories, and would make an excellent addition to any collection.
