We offer you a “5th Model” Civil War Burnside .54 Caliber Carbine with a very fine bore and matching numbers.

This is what is called a 5th Model 1864 Burnside and is serial number 13617. The top of the frame marking is worn but reads “BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864”. The top of the barrel is marked “CAST STEEL 1864” but is very hard to read with most of the marking worn off. The same goes for the plate marking “BURNSIDE RIFLE CO / PROVIDENCE  R.I.”. The serial numbers and markings are all shown in the pictures. There is an old drivers license number scribed on the block as shown. The rest of the serial numbers are matching. There might be more markings on other parts, but the Carbine was taken down to my comfort point for these pictures. It wears a 21 inch barrel that has a very fine bore. It is bright with strongly defined lands and grooves with very light surface pitting. The action is tight and the Carbine hand functions just fine with no issues. The forearm has a chip on the one side as shown but overall is in fine condition. The butt stock has two boxed cartouches as shown. The right side has “HJ / 61.” carved into it as you can see. There are several dings and marked but overall the stock is solid and in fine condition. The pictures show the inspectors “H” and “W” markings which there are several. The .54 caliber carbine used a unique tapered cartridge with a foil or brass case which was ignited by a traditional percussion cap. The designer of this carbine was Union General Ambrose E. Burnside. The Bristol Firearms Co. first manufactured the Burnside carbine then production was from the Burnside Rifle Co. Between 1857 and 1865 approximately 53,800 carbines were manufactured by these firms.

This will be shipped fully insured UPS Ground to you for $65 where allowed. It will ship in a foam lined double walled cardboard box that we have manufactured for us so that your gun arrives safe.

Payment to be made by USPS Money Order or Cashier’s Check.
All firearms come with a 3-day inspection from D2D’s.
