WEST VIRGINIA PERCUSSION .36 CAL. BENCHREST RIFLE SIGNED C. W. HORNBY CIRCA LATE 1860’S-1870’S. 53” o/a with 36” heavy weight octagon deeply rifled .36 cal. barrel signed in script on the top flat “C. W. HORNBY”. Hornby worked in Preston County in northern West Virginia just east of Morgantown during the post-Civil War era. Original as restocked in the mid 20th Century with highly figured tiger maple using the original brass trigger guard, butt plate, toe plate and side plate. Pewter forend cap, brass barrel pin escutcheons and brass ramrod pipes added. Has the original barrel, front and rear sights, lock assembly including the hammer as well as the original double set triggers. Very good plus overall. Barrel with the original finish mixed with patina and good bore with well-defined rifling. Lock and triggers in perfect working order. Weighs 13 pounds.
