Description:
Fine percussion Sporting & Target Rifle, made by Henry C. Steephens, Savannah, Georgia. Steephens was in business in Savannah from at least as early as 1858 through at least as late as 1885. He was born in New York, between 1811 and 1814. His name is always spelled "Stephens" by census takers, but can be found with both spellings in various city directories.

This rifle is styled like a fine English Sporting rifle of that period. It is rifled with seven groove gain-twist rifling, and is of around .45 caliber. The muzzle is turned round for a guide bullet starter. The lock is very crisp, and is actuated by an adjustable single-set trigger.Fancy wood stock that has been repaired long ago,30" octagon barrel, nicely sculpted pewter end tip, trigger guard and buttplate, fine workmanship .A fine example of a Confederate Civil War Rifle.
