Description:
#4796 Brooklyn Arms Co. revolver (AKA, “Slocum Sliding Sleeve Special”), 32RF, manufactured between 1863-1864 and being a very unique and interesting design with sliding cylinder tubes that loaded the revolver through the SIDE, thus circumventing the Rollin-White patent that Smith & Wesson had purchased from Rollin-White and had prevented all revolver competitors from making a rear loading “bored through” cylinder without paying Smith & Wesson for patent use. The Slocum proved to be mildly successful with over 10,000 produced during the height of the Civil War. This specimen is several notches above the average ones encountered at gun shows today (and they are rearely seen at all), and like many of these, it is working with the exception of the cylinder hand and spring. This is a relatively easy fix if someone acually intends to shoot this 150+ year old handgun but is a really decent example if simply displayed as it has nice metal with traces of finish and nice grips. An interesting “second defense” Civil War Era cartridge revolver, and also a good addition to a Firearms Oddity collection or patent infringement collection. About VG+ $845
