Description:
2nd model Winchester 1866 yellowboy rifle. .44RF 24" octagonal barrel, S/N 27209 (mfg. ca 1869). Blued barrel, brass frame and furniture. Standard markings, serial number on lower left frame tang with matching numbers in stock mortise and inside toe of buttplate. 1,000 yard ladder rear sight, dovetailed German silver Rocky Mountain front sight blade, sling swivels in toe of stock and on forend cap. Butt trap with 4-piece cleaning rod. The initials BW are carved into the reverse butt near the buttplate. Metal with a mostly mottled brownish patina with scattered oxidation and some pinpricking. Markings remain legible, mechanically functional, bore fair, heavily oxidized with moderate pitting and visible rifling. Stock with moderate wear, an old repaired crack in the upper tang mortise, some minor gapping and chipping where the butt meets the frame and a small amount of wood filler is in the wrist on the reverse.
