The 20 inch barrel has a near good bore with fairly decent rifling showing light to moderate roughness throughout. The brass frame is worn and rounded showing signs of being cleaned and polished over the years. Most of the steel parts are a deep chestnut brown. The magazine is likely a replacement aged to match. The stocks are somewhat mismatched with the forearm showing heavy wear and the butt stock having a repaired crack that has been pinned and glued as well as a piece grafted in on the right side below the tang. Ladder rear sight with replacement slider. No original markings are visible. Upper tang has been hand stamped  *MODEL1866* Barrel has been hand stamped “WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CT” ahead of the rear sight and “44 HENRY OR 44 RUSSIAN” to the left of the rear sight “TW 2” to the right of the rear sight.
