Description:
Here is a rare and original WWII era Colt Commando chambered in .38 Special with 2" barrel. This Colt Commando in excellent overall condition and was manufactured in 1942. Colt manufactured approximately 50,000 of these revolvers from 1942 to 1945 for use in WWII, and only 3500 were manufactured with a factory 2" barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT COMMANDO/38 SPECIAL" and the ordnance bomb is stamped on the upper left side of the frame just behind the cylinder. The Colt triangle "VP" is on the left front of the trigger guard and "T" on the rear. The revolver has the correct smooth trigger and cylinder release, and checkered hammer spur. It is also fitted with checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions, which was seen on early Colt Commandos before they changed over to checkered plastic grips. The parkerized finish across the entirety of the revolver is in excellent condition, with various light handling marks, a light turn ring on the cylinder, and slight high edge wear. The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, and shows no signs of pitting or erosion. Both the cylinder face and rear star are exceptionally clean for a revolver of this era, and show no signs of excessive wear or handling. The checkered walnut grips are in great condition and fit the frame very nicely. The grips do show very light signs of handling and light dings/denting on the bottom of the grips, but show no signs of cracks, or repairs. All the factory marking are clean and crisp, and the action functions flawlessly. Don't miss out an opportunity to add this rare Colt Commando to your WWII collection!
