Here is an 1873 trapdoor made a year before Custer went to the Little Bighorn. This could have been carried on Crook's march through South Dakota and used at the Slim Buttes fight- but it probably wasn't. Nonetheless it is a very nice rifle that has held up very well as the pictures show, I cannot find a cartouche but after 146 years that might be expected. Good bore and the rifle functions as it should. Nice wood as well. The rear sight has been changed over to the Model 1884 Buffington sight at some time in the past. If I were keeping the rifle I would go on e-Bay and purchase the correct 1873 sight. After a check with a gunsmith there's no reason not to fire this rifle with either black powder or reduced smokeless loads. My friend's son shot his deer last year with an 1873 trapdoor with some black powder cartridges I had loaded for him. Here's a lot of history and a rifle that needn't make apologies. As an antique it can ve shipped to your door in most states. $50 shipping and insurance. NO TEXTS
