Description:
"U.S. Model 1847 Cavalry Musketoon. Rifled and sighted .69 caliber 26" round barrel with barely visible rifling. “1848" dated Springfield lock with eagle over “U.S" at center “VP" over eagle on barrel. No visible barrel date. 9¼" Sling bar with no ring. Two-leaf rear sight with the right end of the short-range leaf missing. Sleeve type chain ramrod retainer missing sleeve and chain. Ramrod is a blacksmith made replacement. The nipple is broken flush to the bolster. Metal is an even brown patina with the lock and hammer a gray bright patina. Action functions correctly. Wood is good with a visible cartouche and a gouge forward of the rear band. There are no cracks or chips. The furniture has an even aged patina. The Cavalry Musketoons were heavily used during the Mexican War and are hard to find today, especially the sleeved chain variant.
