Description:
Pattern 1874 Dyer Pistol Cartridge Pouch EXTREMELY RARE INDIAN WARS ERA CAVALRY ACCUTERMENT In over 35 years of collecting Civil War-Indian Wars Militaria, I’ve never encountered a Pattern 1874 Dyer Revolver Pistol Pouch before. Now I’ve come across a few of the Dyer Pattern 1874 Carbine Pouches but never the Dyer pouches intended for the .45 Colt metallic cartridges. Extremely rare and now you have an opportunity to own one. So not only is this a rare pouch but it also appears to be in unissued original condition. The leather is very supple, “US” in an oval embossed on the cover and marked “Rock Island Arsenal” on the backside. The stitching is tight with no apparent separation in the leather to including the two ears extending over the side of the pouch cavity. Also, the white fleece lining is still intact. I would describe the overall condition as remarkable for the age. The 1874 Dyer Revolver cartridge pouch was produced for about a year before it was discontinued. The role of the pistol cartridge pouch was easy filed by the continued use of Civil War percussion pouches. According to Dorsey this pouch falls into the RARE category especially since it was made at the Rock Island Arsenal and not the Watervliet Arsenal where Dorsey believes they were made. 100% original and correct.
