DUTCH Antique Flintlock Pistol by TOMSON & ZOON Rotterdam Netherlands
A Fine Flint Pistol from the Late-18th Century
Here we present an antique Dutch Tomson & Zoon Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Jacob Tomson worked in Rotterdam until his death circa 1807. Starting in 1800, his sons Jean and Nicholas Zoon worked with him until his passing. This would have been an attractive “defensive” pistol in its day.
This pistol is signed "J TOMSON & ZOON/A ROTTERDAM" on the lock plate. The grip has delicate silver wire inlays throughout with a carved portion at the top near the barrel tang and around the hardware where the stock comes up to meet it. The barrel is octagonal and has a Damascene twist pattern. “HD” is marked on the left side of the barrel.
The overall condition is fine. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and in nice shape. The stock has weathered the years nicely. A very attractive flint pistol from the Netherlands!
