Description:
Colt Detective Special Royal Blue 2.25" Barrel .38 Special

An NRA Excellent 1993 Detective Special 3rd Model with heavy shrouded barrel in pristine factory new condition from the bore and cylinders to the lock-up and timing. The wrap-around walnut combat grips are as fine as they come, and the Colt Royal Blue finish is 99% with strong Rampant Colt and lettering.

Simply an all-around perfect, as new, likely unfired Colt in high collectible condition.

The bore has deep lands and grooves, and both bore and cylinders are bright with no frosting. There is no carbon fouling on the cylinder face or the forcing cone and no impact marks to the recoil shield.
Timing is perfect and lock-up is solid. Zero cylinder endplay with a cylinder gap at the precise factory minimum spec of .006”. This piece has been fired very, very little, if it has ever been fired at all.

In 1973 Colt released the 4th Issue Detective which was a redesign over the previous issues with a new heavy shrouded barrel, extended ramp front sight, and new style wrap-around combat grips. They also eliminated the trigger face serrations and went to a smooth, rounded trigger. This also was the first time a Detective was factory rated for +P ammunition. (3000 rounds)
The 4th issue ran from 1973 until 1986 when the Detective line was officially closed by the Colt company.

Seven years later, in 1993 Colt produced the 5th Issue to clear any existing inventory of leftover Detective parts, only it proved to be such a popular model that Colt continued manufacturing until 1995.
Some of the 1993 version of the 5th Issue left the factory with the wrap-around walnut combat grips, once the stock was depleted, Colt outsourced the Pachmayr rubber grip.

A desirable 1993 Detective 5th Issue, significant to any Colt collector.
