Civil War Model 1858 Union Artillery "Hardee" hat. Constructed of black pressed felt. The crown is approximately 5" high, at the base is a 1/2" black silk hat band and a red wool hat cord. Brass stamped, Artillery front insignia and attached to the turn-up on the side of the hat is a m1851 Hardee officer's hat insignia, also in brass. Leather sweatband present and in good condition. The inside bottom of the hat has the "US Army, Extra Manufacture, No4" maker stamp.
Provenance | Collection of Brigadier General Dr. Edward R. Burka (1930-2021): BG Burka was an avid collector of and expert on U.S. medical military insignia, uniforms, and instruments. Over his lifetime he assembled a comprehensive militaria collection. His collection included many extremely fine high-grade examples of 19th and 20th C. militaria. Items are consigned by the estate. Size: 7.1/8 Condition: Very good.
