Description:
This is a very desirable early Model 1902 "American Eagle" Luger pistol that is in excellent condition. These are rare with the fat barrel, as only 600-700 were ever produced in total, all for commercial sales in the United States. This model was a continuation of the earlier 1902 commercial Luger however these were specifically intended for the U.S. market, and these were the first 9mm chambered Lugers. This pistol has the short old style frame with leaf springs and no stock lug, recessed breech block, dished toggles with toggle lock and grip safety. The barrel extension is also the short old model with the top of the chamber area roll marked with the prominent "American Eagle" crest, with the front toggle correctly marked with the "DWM" logo. The bluing on this one rates at about 95%, with minor high edge wear on the muzzle and sideplate. There is also some patina on the grip frame, and the left side of the pistol has a few very minor areas of pinpricking. Original straw rates at around 90%. The grips show minor smoothing and handling wear but no cracks or chips. Both are marked internally with an asterisk, which we have seen specifically on other Fat Barrel examples but unsure the exact significance. Blank wood bottom magazine with a small crack in the base. Bore shows some use but has strong rifling and no pitting.
