Manufactured in 1850 by Ely Whitney. 33" Round .54 caliber barrel with visible rifling and fair bore. Metal has a smooth brown patina. Lock is marked “E. Whitney/ U.S." at the center and “N Haven/ 1850" at the rear. Barrel tang is dated “1850" with “US/ JH/ VP" inspection stamps and “Steel" on the left flate. The brass furniture is very good. Stock is solid with two dents above the left-rear flat, and three areas of old wood loss between the bands and the side of the barrel. Two inspectors’ cartouches are visible on the left-flat. The cleaning rod and sling swivels are present and action functions correctly. A very nice Mississippi that probably saw Civil War use SOLD Antique: Yes |
