Description:
"Very High Quality John Krider Percussion Target .40 caliber rifle. 47" Overall length with a 30" heavy octagon barrel with fine bore. Barrel is 1" at the muzzle. Metal has a pleasing smooth even brown patina. The wood is very fine with fine checkering at the wrist. The top flat of the barrel is marked “Krider. Philada", and the lock is stamped “Krider". The lock, hammer, top tang, trigger guard, butt plate tangs, and patch box are nicely engraved. The German silver nosecap, barrel key escutcheons, wrist inlay, and inlay to the rear of the trigger guard are fine. The inlay to the rear of the trigger guard is engraved “18" (shooting club gun no. 18?). Both swivels and the original cleaning rod are present. The double set trigger action functions correctly. To operate, the hammer is cocked, the rear trigger is pulled until it sets the front trigger, and the front trigger is pulled to fire. John Krider had a manufacturing and retail store in downtown Philadelphia at Walnut at 2nd. He operated form the 1830s until the 1870s. This very fine John Kinder target rifle is circa 1850. It has all the features expected of fine target rifle of the period.
