Here we present an antique W. Ketland & Co. Flintlock Pistol, made in London, England. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The lock plate is marked “KETLAND/& Co” ahead of the hammer. “London” on the top of the barrel. The left rear side of the barrel is stamped with pre-1813 London proof marks. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are all iron. Trigger guard, side plate, and pommel cap are of brass. The action does not function, but the previous owner attempted to get it working again with lock internal parts that he made but was unable to finish. The lock fits flush without the crude mainspring that doesn’t have much give to it. The bore is smooth and in good condition. The stock is in good shape with a small repair at the front of the lock. The trigger guard is a replacement. As it is, it is a nice piece for display, though someone else might want to take up the mantle to get it functioning again. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .58 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
