The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs.  Produced in plain-jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, the production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped.  This is the venerable Browning Superposed Grade 1 with hard-to-find field chokes.  Most of these guns are found with 26” barrels and skeet chokes and are less desirable.  As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the long tang, round knob guns built before 1966, and guns from the 1950’s are the cream of the crop.  This Superposed, sn71187 was built in 1959.   This fine Browning weighs in at 7lbs. 5oz., making it a superb upland bird gun for carrying long distance and long hours.  With the most desirable 28" barrels choked M/F, this gun is all factory original and is in 98% factory original condition overall, having dark, rich blue on the barrels and action with only a few handling marks bringing to 98%.  The wood is without splits or cracks, with the original length stock with factory horn butt plate, all of the factory finish remaining and only a few handling marks.  Guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because of the way Browning cured their wood.  Not all guns were affected, but the marketplace still has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs, and some even with square knob pistol grips.  This gun is amongst the most desirable of all the different eras of the Superposed.  This is a great upland gun that is balanced to perfection 3/8” forward of the hinge pin and light enough to carry all day afield.  You still have time to take some roosters or waterfowl with this 62 year old Browning!  The value of these earlier Superposed guns continues to climb, so you can invest in this gun and enjoy its use as it gains value.  To find a 98% Belgium made Superposed from 1959 is really a treasure.  Thanks for looking!
