Description:
Another “ESTATE” firearm listing brought to you from Dust 2 Dollars who prides themselves on showing the complete gun in high quality pictures along with a detailed description for your consideration.

We offer you a “RARE” Alexander Henry “Best” 10 gauge double shotgun with hammers and Damascus barrels.

Alexander Henry was a Scottish gun maker that was based in Edinburgh, and designer of the Henry rifling and barrel used in the Martini–Henry rifle. In 1872 he was appointed "Gun and rifle manufacturer to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales".
This Alexander Henry double barrel shotgun was delivered on March 23rd in 1878. This makes our shotgun over 143 years old and qualifies it as an “antique” which requires no FFL needed for the transfer.
The factory letter states that serial number 4361 is a double center fire gun, best quality, 10 gauge with 30” Damascus barrels. It was built on the Eclipse top lever action with A Bar Brazier locks. It has a D&G snap fore-end, weighed 9 pounds at the time of completion and shot 4 ½ drams of No. 8 powder with 1 ¼ ounce of shot. The chambers are 2 7/8” with square shoulders and this shotgun was originally manufactured for George R. Hamilton.
The shotgun is all original with the no modifications. It shows very fine and exquisitely executed engraving as shown. The receiver still shows some case coloring after 143 years as you can see. The Damascus barrels show strong design and a rich color. Both bores are bright with just a few very, very small spots of surface pitting. The stock dimensions as stated on the letter are; bend at small in front of pistol hand comb 2 1/8 at comb 1 7/8 heel 2 ¾ Length of pull 14 3/8.
The action is tight with no movement or issues. The stocks are solid and show some dings and marks from use over the years. Overall this is a very fine example of a very rare shotgun.
