1990s Audemars Piguet Huitième Chronograph In Steel
WHY THIS WATCH MATTERS
This Audemars Piguet Huitième chronograph showcases the advent of what we now associate with the modern watchmaking era, with a classic dial configuration and a large 40.5mm steel case. Watch is like new-very little use. Just got full service by Swiss Watchmaker & Co in Miami (the Best) replacing rubber gasket, as part of service, with 6 month warrantee.
THE FULL STORY
Throughout its history, Audemars Piguet has shown great restraint in its designs plus high performing movements fitted inside, and this piece is no different. Being on the cusp of the vintage to the modern era, it's easy to observe the transitionality of this piece. While this example is in steel, this model was also offered in a full gold version, as well as a relatively new material called tantalum and gold. This steel version is now rare and hardest to find especially in this condition. (see many pictures). The movement inside is the self-winding caliber 2126, which derived from the caliber 899/1 by Jaeger-LeCoultre with an additional chronograph module by Dubois Dépraz, keeping the profile sleek in a 40mm case size.
