Description:
Considered to be among the most handsome of all the many 1899's and 99's produced is the actual model name is Model 1899  .250-3000.
It was designed specificlly for this this cal which at the time was the lst commercially produced round to reach 3000 fps.
The Savage advt for the rifle at the time said "The .250-3000 Savage is a ligh, handy, gracefully modeled frild designed to compare favorably in appearance , balance and finish with the expesive European sporting rifles , and to exceed them in accuracy, strength, speed and ease of manipulatino and effectivness....." At the time used to take game from our largest game to Rino's (a little early 20th century snake oil advertising) but neverlheless people to this day love these rifles and this cal.
This model produced from 1914 to 1921 before being replaced by the similar model G deluxe.
The receiver still retians most of the original exceptional blue of that era (much like Colts early fire blue) with some wear on the underside from being carried.
The wood has more figure than we can recall seeing on any non engraved 99 and is free of cracks splits or even meaningful marks or repairs. There had been a sling swivel stud removed from the butt stock but easily replaced.
There is no pitting, the bore is perfect and the take down lock up is super tight !!!!!!
This was not factory drilled for scope and it appears that two different front bases were used; one has very small filler screws from a previos base and then the Weaver front base was added. Some of our pics show it wiht an excellent but inexpensive Bushnell (Bausch & Lomb) variable.Scope is clear and bright but over powers the rifle asthetically....it should have something like a half tube fixed or lower power variable. (we have many excellent and some older used scopes that would be a better match....inquire about inventory and pricing )
Like other 1899's and 99's of this era and some much later it has the lever safety, case colored lever (mostly faded) brass cartridge counter (visible on left side of recever) and cocking indicator.
Scope shown a 3 x 9 Bushnell is included if buyer wants it...pls let us know
Shipping is $ 49.00
