CIVIL WAR SPENCER CAVALRY CARBINE SERIAL NUMBERED IN THE 6TH ILLINOIS CAVALRY RANGE. All original 56-56 Spencer caliber with 22” original barrel with no post-Civil War alterations. Serial number 29883 in the middle of the 6th Illinois Cavalry Volunteers issue and closely numbered to several documented 6th Illinois Carbines. All original with old re-blued metal. Excellent working order and good rifling. Excellent wood with two small old repairs on forend at juncture of frame and barrel. Remnant of Ordnance inspection cartouche on stock behind saddle ring bar. Original tubular magazine in butt stock. Among the first Spencer Carbines issued in late 1863 to one of the most engaged Union Cavalry regiments of the Civil War.
