This is an all-matching numbered revolver that has retained 70-75% of the original brushed blue finish that has silvered and faded along the raised edges, projections, and there is mild brown freckling throughout. Additionally, there is some mottled brown flaking on the topstrap, trigger guard, and gripstraps. The revolver has numerous Broad Arrow property stamps along with a deeply struck "C.M.R. / 735" unit stamp on the backstrap about halfway down (Cape Mounted Riflemen / 735). A further "C^G" property mark is present on the frontstrap near the toe of the butt denoting possession by the Cape Government. Double arrow civilian sale stamps are present on the frame and barrel as well. The checkered hard rubber, Broad Arrow marked grips are in fine shape with some minor flattening of the points, as well as a few minor scratches and handling blemishes, mainly towards the butt. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. The Cape Mounted Riflemen were a combination military and police force, and saw extensive service both in tribal conflicts, and the Boer War. In 1913 it was incorporated into the South African Army and was renamed the 1st South African Mounted Riflemen. This is a fine-near excellent example of a desirable Boer War Webley model, with a great and desirable South African unit marking. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Webley Model: Mk.
