Description:
AyA sidelock 20 gauge SxS shotgun. The exact model of this gun is unknown to me! It is a true sidelock action with cocking indicators and coin finished hand engraved scroll work covering about 50% of the action.
The barrels are 25 ½” long with a raised tapered Churchill style solid rib. Metal front bead. Both bores have diameters of .622” and both with minimum wall thicknesses of .038”. The right barrel is choked .022” (IM) and the left barrel is .027” (Full). Both are mirror bright and clean and factory chambered for 2 ¾” shells.
The mechanics of the action are more reminiscent of overbuilt German guns! Double underlug locks, side clips and for good measure a cross bolt all secure the barrels to the action. Double triggers and extractors.
The butt stock has a Prince of Wales checkered grip. 14 9/16” LOP over the factory buttplate. 1 3/8” DAC with 2 1/8” DAH and ¼” cast for a right-hand shooter. The splinter forearm has an Anson style release and matching fine checkering.
Factory fitted sling swivels.
The gun weighs 5 lbs. 15 oz., balances at the hinge pin; points nicely and handles smooth and lively.
Finish wise..all original. The wood finish is “checking” as they do and chipping in small spots where wood and metal meet. The barrel blue and trigger guard blue are 98%+ and the coin finished receiver has some spots of very light surface “freckling” and light scratches from handling.
Great bird gun and a great value for a true sidelock.
