Description:
A very fffine quality made French Dueling percussion pistol.with a .52 cal, 8 7/8'' octagon barrel with an oxidized bore, but strong agressive rifling . The barrel shows remnants of original plum-brown finish with a small moderate ding on the left side edge, some scattered light pitting and one area of heavier pitting on the right side. The lockplate shows remnants of silvery case-hardening toning to dark brown with scattered light pitting. There are some light foliate chisel engraved embellishments along the lockplate and fish head motif on the hammer that is partially obscured by old oxidation. The pistol is fitted with brass hardware including single thimble, tailpipe, wedge escutcheons, single spur triggerguard, buttcap and lock screw escutcheons all toned to a pleasant ocher patina showing some scattered light dings and handling marks; one of the right-side small barrel escutcheon screw is missing. The hardware shows some attractive embellishments with nice foliate extension behind the tailpipe, foliate triggerguard finial, panoply of arms with buck's head on the bow of the guard and the rear lock escutcheon with some sort of winged lion-like beast. The checkered walnut stock remains in about very good condition showing a few scattered thin drying cracks here and there, a few small abrasions and some moderate dings mostly along the left side;with a hardwood ram-rod,  the brass tip is missing. The stock retains a healthy amount of original finish and shows some nice grain figure along the grip. A blade  front sight is present, and the pistol is equipped with a single set trigger and the lockworks well with a strong mainspring
