Many years ago I read that the Dept. Of Tennessee had purchased many of these French Dept. of Tenn.Lefaucheux 10 Shot Pinfire Revolvers for the river boat captains to keep from being boarded by Yankee soldiears that wanted to take command of the rivers, where the Confedercy had transported supplies for the war. This salty working revolver with a 6" barrel chamberd for the potent 12mm pin fire cartridge has engraving all over the gun and has seen a long hard life as the finish is rough in some places and pitted also, yet it locks up and indexes good on D,A. . Long ago the number one was carved into the left grip by a jack knife and CSA carved on the tight grip. These carving were done a very long time ago as the are the same color and wear as the rest of the grip. This gun was made without a lanyard and the owner has poked a hold in the bottom of the grip both sides for their own lanyard ring. A very colorful gun that surely was used in the great war! I've seen these sell without any markings from $1400 and up. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
