Description:
General Specs: J. Hartmann, Year 1935, 9mm Rifle/ 16 gauge, 6lbs 15oz, Chokes Full, LOP 13 5/8"
Serial Number: NSN

This is a nicely made German Cape gun with the Jones underlever lock system and fluid steel nitro-proofed barrels 27” long.  Both bores are excellent, and the barrels are tight on the breech face and hinge pin like a new gun.  The Jones underlever system has always been a rock-solid design that has longevity of use.  There is no serial number on this gun, and it may be older than the barrels which are proofed in 1935.  The 16-gauge right barrel is choked full in standard German fashion. We have cast the bore and chamber and have identified the chambering to be 9.3x70R.  Some writings regarding this cartridge state that it was also known as a .360 D Express or a .400/360 Westley Richards Nitro Express.  The chamber casting and bore casting are part of the package.  The previous owner was able to buy ammunition for the gun, so it is available.  The springs and hammers are excellent, and the set trigger works as it should.  The European walnut shows some figure and normal handling marks with checkering there but worn.  There are no cracks or repairs to the wood, and the horn break lever, buttplate, and grip cap are in sound condition.  For those that cherish these fine guns, this one is in honest condition and ready to serve in the field.  She weighs 6lbs. 15oz. and balances just forward of the hinge pin and is a very steady Cape gun.  It is a nice find to have a gun with nitro steel barrels on the old-style hammer gun with the Jones underlever.  Kind of the best of both worlds without the worry of Damascus.  Please call if you have any questions.  As you can see in the photos the wood-to-metal fit, screws, engraving, etc. are all in nice shape.  Thanks for looking!
