Most double gun enthusiasts are aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of  superior strength and mechanical genius created under the micro management of John Olin himself.  From 1930 to 1980 they only made about 2900 twenty-gauge guns in all grades, most of them weighing well over 6 3/4lbs., many over 7lbs.  TO FIND A WINCHESTER MODEL 21 TWENTY GAUGE THAT WEIGHS IN AT JUST 6 POUNDS 3 OUNCES IS AN EVENT, ESPECIALLY WITH 28” BARRELS AND A 14 ¾” LOP!  Anybody who walks long distances in the field appreciates a lighter gun by the end of the day.  In my 30 years of chasing vintage American double guns, I have only encountered 4 Model 21's (out of thousands handled) that weighed 6 1/4lbs. or less.  This is likely the only one you will ever have an opportunity to buy.  The M21 guns are fully capable of shooting the most powerful loads available, SO IF YOU LIKE MAGNUM LOADS FOR PHEASANTS, DUCKS, OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS YOUR GUN (we can make it a 3” chamber safely in our gunsmith shop).  This gun, sn17865 produced in 1947, shows incredible workmanship and desirable features rarely found in other M21 guns.  The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face, the triggers crisp, the ejectors well timed and strong, top lever is well right of center, and the screws are all in excellent condition.  The desirable English style stock measure a LONG 14 ¾” LOP TO A FACTORY BUTTPLATE.  If you need it longer, we can add a Winchester factory pad and bring the LOP to a very long 15 3/8”.  The combination of double triggers, ejectors, English gripped butt stock, splinter forend, ultra-light weight, and field chokes of LM/IM clearly demonstrate its intended use…THE ULTIMATE M21 UPLAND BIRD GUN.  This gun has seen little use, retaining 99% professionally restored finishes on all metal and wood.  The gun is ready for another 74 years of service.  The 28” barrels have mirror shiny bores, no dents or dings, and are as specified in the Cody Museum letter that accompanies the gun.  The M/F chokes were altered to LM/IM.  You may notice that the barrels are not stamped on the exterior with the Winchester stampings.  As noted in the Cody letter, this is a custom ordered two-barrel set that included a set of 28ga. barrels that are nowhere to be found.  As mentioned in Ned Schwing’s seminal book, “WINCHESTER’S FINEST, THE MODEL 21” on page 68, it was not uncommon for barrels to go unmarked and it was common on special order guns.  This is a special-order gun.  The barrels are properly marked on the underside, including Winchester proof marks.  This is an extremely desirable Model 21 20 ga..  The gun has condition, double triggers, field chokes, and is likely the only so configured Winchester Model 21 you will see in a very long time.  The price is right and the gun will always be an appreciating asset as you enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking!
