Description:
A most unusual accessory from the Great War. The 1907 St. Etienne and 1914 French Heavy Hotchkiss 8mm guns were air cooled. When engaged in action the guns could sustain continuous fire but they got so hot the gun could not be handled to move to another enplacement. French gunners and their assistant gunners wore a shoulder pad with chain mail to avoid getting burned by the hot gun being transported to another entrenchment. There is also a glove for the assistant gunner to handle the hot barrels. These two accessories in fantastic condition are perfect for a static museum display.
