Colt’s Smallest Semi-Auto, Made in 1911
Here we present a C&R Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket Pistol, made in 1911 in Hartford, Connecticut with a production run from 1908 through 1948 with over 420,000 produced. Production was paused between 1943 and 1945 so Colt could support the war effort. This was another John Moses Browning design, and it was Colt’s smallest semi-automatic pistol offering. It was marketed as a small concealable firearm which could be easily tucked into a vest pocket for unobtrusive carry. It is chambered for 6 shots of .25 ACP. At the end of the production run, an improved redesign became the Baby Browning, which is still in production today. This one was made in the fourth year of production and would have been carried into the Roaring Twenties and well beyond!
The overall condition is near fine. Original finish. Excellent action and nice bore with sharp rifling. The grips are in very good condition or better. A very nice little handgun from Colt, made in 1911!
