Description:
This Springfield stock is dated 1890. The musket's serial number is 589315. It is chambered for the 45-70 Government Musket Cartridge. The left side of the reciever is stamped WCCO just forward of the breech block take down pin.The bore is bright and free of pitting. The government stampings and proof marks are clean and easy to read. The stock shows some service wear and dings. The rod bayonet is original and in good condition. The action works properly with no issues. The sights are original to the musket and undamaged. The front sight hood is original and intact. The original tools are also intact in the buttplate trap door compartment. The tools consist of the wiper tip, The model 1882 headless shell extractor and the 1879 combination tool. The original bluing would rate a 75% overall condition. The color cased finish is intact in protected areas. The Western Costume Company supplied props and costumes for early westerns and military pictures in the Motion Picture Industry. This musket was not altered in any way, it will still shoot the 45-70 government ammunition. There is no way to trace what movies this gun was used in however. This musket served the Military and in latter life the Early Motion Picture Industry. A interesting history for this Springfield! This Trapdoor Musket will appeal to the military collector as well as the Moving Picture Memorabilia collector. Search for hlvfineguns on google for more information.
