Description:
Offered for sale is an exceptionally nice, original cased Allen & Thurber Pepperbox .31 cal. pistol. Action nice and strong- cycles well and all original nipples. A nice pre Civil War set that has an interesting addition. The powder flask is wrapped in an old handwritten note where the owner traded for a gold watch which says "which I will show you when I come". The note is undated, but definitely period as the writing is faded and looks like it was written with an old dip pen years ago. The pistol is in fine, original condition with much deep blue on the bolster shield, except thinned where it has layed and rubbed in the case The original varnished grips are nice- no cracks and never refinished. It has a fluted cylinder. The pistol is all matching serial number 280 on the frame, cylinder, mainspring and inside both grips.The wood case is also very nice- original varnish and original deep purple lining that shows wear where the pistol has laid over 170 years. A very pleasing set that has been in my personal collection for years and displays very nicely. THANKS for your interest!
