Description:
I am out of my comfort zone listing Civil War firearms, but I'm going to do my best. This is a Colt rifled musket that has been used heavily, with a bore that is .015" overbore and the rifling is mostly gone at the muzzle end and barely visible past that. Other than that, the bore looks clean. The wood has been refinished and the metal vigorously cleaned, but the markings are mostly legible, withU.S. above Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co. above Hartford, Ct. on the lockplate in front of the hammer and 1864 to the rear of the hammer. On the barrel, V above P above eagle over STEEL are all clearly visible. The barrel date is not visible. There is wear on the eagle on the bolster, but most of it is visible. Each of the three barrel bands have clear U on them, but the front band U is smaller than the other two and none of the bands fit the wood properly. I believe that the other parts visible to me are original to the gun, but I have not taken the lock assembly out of the wood to inspect it. The US on the buttplate is only half there and there is aclear M on the trigger guard. Please look at the pictures and ask questions if need be. This gun is an antique and can ship directly to the buyer. I think this gun would make an excellent reenactor gun, and it does shoot, according to the previous owner. Buyer pays shipping and insurance. There is a three day inspection and return period, provided that the gun is returned unfired and not disassembled, and in the exact same condition it was originally shipped in. Buyer is responsible for shipping cost to return the item. Thanks for looking.
