1857 vintage Civil War Colt 1851 Navy percussion revolver, serial number 75876. 7 - 1/2" octagonal barrel in .36 caliber with single line Colt Hartford, CT address, cone front sight, and hammer notch rear. 1 piece handsome walnut grips. Matching serial numbers observed on butt, trigger guard, frame, barrel, wedge, cylinder, cylinder arbor, and rammer. Very Good Condition with virtually all of the original bluing turned to a good looking blueish-gray patina. Cylinder scene is intact and visible.Trigger guard and backstrap assembly have are-nickel plated. Grips are strong and the Action works appropriately when cycled by hand. The Model 1851 Navy was Colt’s most popular percussion revolver. almost a quarter million of the iconic.36 caliber six-shot model were produced between 1850 and 1873. The term "Navy" refers to the caliber of the revolver, not necessarily the branch of service. The.44 caliber revolvers are called "Army" and.36 caliber revolvers are called "Navy." The 1851 Navy was used by a number of famous soldiers and lawmen as well as infamous outlaws in American history. The Navy was ONLY EVER .36 caliber. Some reproduction companies mistakingly make them In 44. Folks, these Magnificent pieces of our history are becoming harder and harder to find in any condition and for a price you can buy Quality or History but here you have the opportunity to purchase both without going broke. I promise your Heirs will thank you.
