Description:
This is a very nice, all-original, American Civil War period C. Sharps & Co. Model 2C Pepperbox pistol in .30 Sharps Rimfire.  The C. Sharps & Co. Model 2C features a fluted standing breech, a rounded grip-to-frame juncture, varnished Walnut grips, and a serial number range of 3700 to 8000 (Approx.5000 manufactured of this variation).  The Model 2C was built with a silver-plated brass frame and a factory-blued fluid-steel barrel cluster, hammer, and trigger.  This 4-shot pepperbox design is single-action and uses a rotating firing pin on the hammer face to fire each barrel in a clock-wise rotation from the shooter's perspective.  Each time the hammer is cocked the firing pin moves to the next barrel.  The barrel assembly can be slid forward by placing the hammer in the safe position (1-click back) and by depressing the button on the bottom of the frame.  With the barrels extended forward the pistol can be loaded or unloaded.  This particular example is serial number 4963 and is all-matching and 100% original.  As you can see from the pictures, it is a very handsome piece with a nice aged patina that is consistent across all of the parts.  The original blue finish on the barrel assembly has turned a gray-blue but there are still some patches of gloss blue in the protected areas.  The original silver plating on the frame is still intact in places as well, with large areas still intact on the sides of the frame and the underside while the edges and more exposed areas show the brass underneath.  The maker's marks stamped in a circle around the hammer pivot are still visible but appear to have been "light strikes" from the start.  On the left side of the frame the upper half of the circular marking is clear while on the right side the lower half is still visible.  All of the stamped serial-numbered parts are matching, including the frame, barrel assembly, and the crosspiece that holds both grips on (stamped on the underside).  The original grips on this Model 2C are in excellent condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage.  Both grip panels are perfectly fit to the gun, tight to the metal, and both show a lot of the original factory varnish still intact.  The four bores in this Sharps are all in good to very good condition overall.  While all four barrels show at least one localized spot of pitting, they all show very strong rifling throughout and are 95% shiny and clean.  As mentioned in the title, this Model 2C is fully functional, just how it left the factory.  The rotating firing pin is perfectly "in time", and the barrel assembly locks up nice and tight to the frame.  Both hammer positions are in perfect condition (safety position and full-cock) and the spur trigger is in perfect working order.  There is no doubt that this C. Shaps & Co. Pepperbox would still function perfectly today if you could still get ammunition for it.  If you have been looking for a neat antique pistol to add to your collection this C. Sharps & Co. Model 2C would be an excellent choice.  It is not too often that we get these larger .30 rimfire caliber models in, and it is even more rare to get one in such excellent mechanical condition.  As an antique this can be shipped directly to your home, no FFL needed.
