Rare ROYAL PORTUGUESE ARMY Contract LUGER Pistol

1 of 5,000 DWM Pistol with “CROWN/M2” Chamber Marking

Here we present a Royal Portuguese Army Contract Model 1906 “M2” Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol, made circa 1909 in Berlin, Germany. Only 5,000 were made for this contract, making this a rare and very collectible piece. It is most easily distinguished from other Luger pistols by the large “CROWN/M2” marking on the chamber. This is the mark of King Manuel II who was the last monarch of Portugal. His was a brief reign, from 1908-1910, and it followed the assassination of his father, King Carlos I, and the king’s brother, Luís Filipe. King Manuel II has also been known by the title, The Unfortunate. His rocky rule began with tragedy and only two years after ascending the throne the monarchy was dissolved after the 1910 Revolution. He spent the rest of his life in exile. It was during his reign, however, that the military adopted the Luger pistol. The new Republican government would go on to purchase more Luger pistols and, needless to say, changed the chamber markings.

The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 90% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The numbers match with the exception of the magazine base. The bore is bright and sharp. The grips are in good shape. The action on this pistol is excellent. Here is quite a rare Luger for your collection!

This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.

Barrel is 4-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .30 Luger (7.65mm Luger)

Overall condition as seen in photos.
