Description:
This is a fine all original as issued Springfield Model 1842 percussion .69 caliber smooth bore musket dated 1855. It also has an absolutely authentic CSA Captured and Collected 'Q' stamp in front of the trigger guard, exactly as pictured in the book "Captured & Collected Confederate Reissued Firearms". See the attached photo of the 'Q' stamp as illustrated in the book and compare it to photo of the stamp on the musket's stock; they are identical. This stamp indicates that the gun was either captured or collected from the battlefield by the Confederacy and turned into one of the CSA arsenals to be cleaned and/or  repaired for re-issue to the Confederate Army. The gun is in fine condition showing clean smooth bright polished iron with no pitting, excellent crisp lock and barrel markings with matching 1855 production date on both lock and barrel tang. The .69 caliber smooth bore is clean and  bright and shows little use. The dark walnut stock is also fine with its original arsenal oil finish, crisp sharp edges and it still retains the original federal inspection stamp on the stock flat. The stock has no chips, cracks or repairs, just a few minor handling dings. The gun retains its original correct ramrod, sling swivels, front sight, bayonet lug, and all its sharp non-buggered original screws. The lock mechanics and blued nipple are perfect. This is a fine example of the last of the U.S. big smooth bore muskets that saw extensive service on both sides in the Civil War. This example is especially desirable with the Confederate Captured and Collected 'Q' stock stamp.  Layaway available. I have a fine matching bayonet for this musket also avalaible separately.
