“Victory depends in large measure on the increased war production we are able to get from our factories and arsenals…This is total war. We are all under fire…soldiers and civilians alike-no one is a spectator. To win we must fight, and to fight we must produce.”  - Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

With the fire set, Underwood, then the world's largest manufacturer of typewriters and office equipment, got to work producing all kinds of war materials from aircraft engine parts to bomb fuses. One of the vital pieces of equipment they undertook to produce was the Winchester designed M1 Carbine. Underwood would be awarded the Army/Navy E for Excellence award numerous times and used their know-how to advance the speed in which the M1 Carbine could be made turning out barrels at an astounding rate - barrels that were highly regarded by all the companies involved in the task of arming the free world. Over six million carbines would be made between 1942 and 1945 with almost five million made in 1943-44 alone!
This example of an M1 Carbine is one of the 545,616 carbines made by Underwood. This fine example of the M1 has the early Pederson produced highwood stock with two rivet heat guard. Its Underwood developed stamped and brazed trigger group sports the early push button safety while the on the receiver is mounted the early flip peep sight.  A flat bolt, all matching numbers, and overall factory original finish round out this famous weapon.
The gun comes with a whole kit of accessories including six mags marked IU (in circle), IU, UU, LU, LU and U. There are three ammo pouches for your mags, two from Avery 1943 and 1945 and one from Redwind & Strain also dated 1945. A victory MFG muzzle cover adds the final flourish to the whole kit and caboodle and all wrapped up in a period correct 1945 M-D manufactured canvas carry cover.

Shooting the .30 carbine round always brings a smile to the shooter. The M1 such a fun rifle to shoot - everyone that tries one wants one and this one is special.  This is a great piece of history and ready for your collection, onward to Victory!
