Description:
This is an exceedingly rare Civil War Arm with much intrigue behind its history. Some attribute these as a Confederate import, however there is no documentation in order to prove that theory. This Oldenburg Infatry Rifle Musket, or better known as the Cyclops Rifle is one of the approximately few hundred manufactured. There were 2 variations manufactured. This example bears what appears to be Unit and rack number markings on the trigger guard. All major parts are numbered with the same "100" which leads to the assumption most of this firearm is correct and original. The hammer has been period altered with either a replacement hammer or a period repaired hammer but has certainly been on this particular rifle for well over 100 years. The patina and pitting matches up completely. Really nice and visible markings remain on the upper tang. The stock appears to be very good condition with no cracks but handling marks are visible throughout. Mechanically works well. The rod is a old replacement. I know someone who owns a couple of these and is having correct rods made which I can give you his contact information if one wishes to put a correct style rod with it. There are approximately 8 known in the US, an opportunity to acquire one of these cyclops rifles are very scarce and doesn't happen often. Shipping is $60 plus actual insurance amount.
