Description:
Despite its rough appearance, this .22 rifle possesses a pristine bore and should shoot very accurately. The Remington Model 241 was the successor to the Remington Model 24 designed by the famous John M. Browning. Both are closely related to the Browning SA-22 rifle which is still in production. The primary difference between the Model 24 and Model 241 is the barrel tightening method used – a necessary feature for a takedown rifle. The older Model 24 used an adjusting ring on the lower end of the barrel where it presses against the receiver. The Model 241 uses a dual-sided nut with an interrupted-screw threading which rides inside the opening in the front of the receiver. How deeply the nut sits in the receiver determines how tightly the barrel fits against the receiver. The Model 241 was produced between 1935 and 1951 with a rough total of 107,345 examples produced. The barrel date code of “PF” indicates this 241 left the factory in June of 1937, making this rifle 84 years old, over three quarters of a century. As mentioned previously, this rifle has seen some use. The barrel and receiver both exhibit light pitting and finish loss. The wood exhibits a few areas of finish wear or minor dings. The initials E.A.S. are carved into the bottom of the pistol grip. However the bore is in near pristine shape and the actions functions very well for its age. If it could talk it would probably have quite a story to tell.
